When guests join us beneath some of Australia’s darkest skies, they experience the universe through telescopes, stories and conversation. For many, it is their first opportunity to appreciate the scale and beauty of the night sky. For us, it is an opportunity to share the remarkable place where those skies are experienced in pristine conditions.
The landscapes, cultural heritage, naturally dark skies and unique biodiversity of the Ningaloo region are the reason these experiences are possible. Respecting and protecting these values is fundamental to the way we operate and a responsibility we readily accept.

Our Philosophy
We believe tourism should leave a destination better understood than when it was first encountered.
Every Ningaloo Stars experience begins with a sense of wonder and curiosity our guests bring. Together, we explore the night sky through modern astronomy alongside stories that span cultures and generations. Along the way, we gain a deeper appreciation of the remarkable place that has inspired those stories for thousands of years.
We are fortunate to work in one of Australia’s most remarkable places, the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area. We believe that privilege carries responsibilities. Looking after the environment, making our experiences accessible, respecting cultural heritage and continually improving the way we operate are part of doing the job properly.

How We Care for the Environment
Protecting the naturally dark skies and landscapes of the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area is part of the way we operate every day. The following are measures we take to minimise our environmental impact.
Protecting Naturally Dark Skies
Naturally dark skies are fundamental to every Ningaloo Stars experience. We use low-intensity red lighting wherever practical to preserve guests’ night vision, minimise unnecessary light spill and reduce disturbance to wildlife. White lighting is used only where required for safety or operational purposes, allowing guests to experience the night sky under naturally dark conditions whenever possible.
Respecting the Landscape
Our astronomy sessions are delivered from existing visitor facilities, reducing the need for additional infrastructure or disturbance to the surrounding environment. Guests are guided to remain within designated activity areas, roads and pathways, while telescopes and equipment are positioned to minimise environmental impact. At the conclusion of each session, all equipment is removed and the site is left in the condition in which it was found.
Minimising Waste and Resource Use
Reusable stainless-steel mugs are provided for refreshments, rechargeable batteries are used throughout our equipment, and telescopes and accessories are maintained to maximise their service life before replacement is considered. These practical decisions minimise waste generation and reduce resource use. Any waste produced during each session is removed from site and disposed of appropriately.

Making Astronomy Accessible
Astronomy should be available to everyone. The following are measures we take to reduce barriers and make our experiences welcoming for guests of all ages and abilities.
Accessible Environments
We select locations and design our astronomy experiences to reduce barriers to participation. Guests have access to accessible parking, toilets and seating, with clear pathways between activity areas. Telescope viewing positions are arranged to accommodate guests with a range of mobility needs, helping them experience the night sky comfortably and safely.
Accessible Communication
We use clear, conversational language throughout our sessions and encourage guests to ask questions at any time. Written information is available following each session, with translated summaries provided where appropriate. Two members of our team are trained in basic AUSLAN, enabling us to better support guests who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Individual Support
Every guest experiences the world differently. We encourage guests to let us know about any accessibility requirements when booking so we can discuss their individual needs. We work with each guest to make reasonable adjustments wherever practical. This includes assisting guests with mobility, adapting the pace of a session, supporting neurodiverse visitors and tailoring the way information is presented.

Sharing the Night Sky with Respect
The night sky holds cultural significance for people around the world. The following are measures we take to respectfully share those stories while recognising the people, places and traditions from which they come.
Cultural Respect
We recognise that many cultures have developed their own knowledge, stories and traditions about the night sky. We value the conversations we have with our guests, which often introduce us to new stories and perspectives that continue to broaden our own understanding.
Sharing Stories Responsibly
We share cultural astronomy with respect, acknowledging Traditional Custodians and the importance of First Nations knowledge alongside stories from other cultures, including Greek, Roman and Chinese traditions. We work with local First Nations people to seek guidance and permission where appropriate. Where cultural knowledge is not ours to tell, we respect those boundaries.
Encouraging Curiosity
We explore the connections between science, culture and the natural world with our guests. Every experience is designed to encourage curiosity and continued exploration after the session has finished.

Supporting the Ningaloo Region
Tourism businesses should contribute positively to the communities in which they operate. The following are measures we take to support the Ningaloo region, its people and its visitor economy.
Supporting Local Tourism
We work alongside organisations including Exmouth Visitor Centre, Australia’s Coral Coast, Tourism WA, Bullara Station and Live Ningaloo to create connected visitor experiences and strengthen regional tourism. Working together helps visitors experience more of the Ningaloo region while strengthening the local visitor economy.
Working with the Community
We share astronomy beyond our regular tourism experiences through schools, community events and local initiatives. Supporting events such as NAIDOC Week activities and working with local schools provides opportunities to introduce new audiences to the night sky while strengthening our connection with the community in which we operate.
Working Together
We believe the Ningaloo region is strongest when tourism businesses support one another. Whether collaborating with local operators, contributing to regional tourism initiatives or developing new visitor experiences, we look for opportunities that benefit our guests, our partners and the wider community.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
Every Ningaloo Stars experience provides an opportunity to learn, improve and refine the way we operate. The following are measures we take to maintain quality, manage risk and continually improve our business.
Quality Systems
Our policies, management plans and operating procedures are brought together within the Ningaloo Stars Management System, providing a consistent framework for the way we operate. Documents are regularly reviewed to ensure they remain practical, current and aligned with recognised tourism standards.
Safety
The safety of our guests, staff and volunteers is considered in every experience we deliver. Equipment is inspected and maintained, risks are assessed before each session, and every experience begins with a safety briefing to ensure guests understand the environment and how to participate safely. Emergency procedures are regularly reviewed to support safe and enjoyable experiences.
Learning and Improving
Guest feedback, industry accreditation and operational experience all contribute to the way Ningaloo Stars continues to evolve. We regularly review our practices, learn from experience and look for opportunities to improve the guest experience.
